The CSPR Panel have launched their new website, which brings together learning from safeguarding reviews and practical resources all in one accessible place and themed by topic.

In this webinar, the Panel introduce the wealth of new resources on the website, including the initial learning hub topics:

• Black, Asian and Mixed Heritage children
• Child sexual abuse
• Neglect
• Vulnerable babies

The Panel is working hard to keep adding new content to the website and further topics will be added regularly. They are currently working on three new content topics: safeguarding children not in school (to be published in June), adolescent suicide and online harms.

Within the Black Country It is estimated that over 309,200 (0–19-year-olds) could be affected by Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder and up to 668,52 Children in care.

Walsall Safeguarding Partnership have shared their webinar which covers:

• An understanding of FASD including identification and diagnosis.
• What FASD is, how it occurs, and the impact of prenatal alcohol exposure.
• Recognising possible indicators of FASD.
• The complexities and challenges around formal diagnosis.
• Why many children remain undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
• How FASD can affect education, relationships, risk, criminal vulnerability, and mental health outcomes.
• A parent will share their lived experience of raising a child with FASD, offering valuable insight into strengths, challenges and what meaningful support looks like.

This Safeguarding Adult Review (SAR) was commissioned to examine in detail the experiences of Patrick, a man in his fifties, who lived with his wife and brother-in-law. He had a diagnosis of schizophrenia, a learning disability and a hearing impairment, and was sadly found dead at his home in April 2024.

Prior to his death, he had received support from a number of services including the Community Psychiatric Nursing Service, the District Nursing Service, the Phlebotomy Service, Primary Care Home Visiting Service and Adult Social Services.

This webinar will focus on the recommendations from the SAR for Patrick and will be delivered by the report author Jenny Butlin.

Safeguarding Adults Reviews (SARs) were introduced in the Care Act (2014) to inform and facilitate learning following the death of an adult at risk of abuse or neglect, and where there are concerns that partner agencies could have worked more effectively to safeguard and protect the adult at the centre of the review.

The purpose of a SAR is not to allocate blame or responsibility to an individual or organisation, but to identify ways of improving how agencies work, singly and together, to help and protect adults with care and support needs who are at risk of abuse and neglect, including self-neglect, and are unable to protect themselves (Department of Health and Social Care, 2020). This session will focus on the recommendations from the SAR below and will be delivered by the report author Nikki Holmes.
