Wolverhampton Safeguarding Together Partnership are developing a meaningful, practitioner-informed Anti-Racist and Equity-Informed Safeguarding Pledge that moves beyond statements of intent and supports lasting change across the safeguarding system.

The proposed programme, developed and lead by Laurelle Brown Training and Consultancy, focuses on ensuring that frontline practitioner experiences shape decision-making, influence leadership, and drive improvements in practice, governance, and accountability.

What does the programme involve?

The approach combines training, practitioner engagement, co-production, and system-wide embedding through five key phases:

• Building a shared understanding of anti-racist and equity-informed safeguarding through multi-agency learning.
• Gathering practitioner insight on barriers, challenges, and opportunities for change.
• Bringing practitioners and senior leaders together to co-create a shared pledge and commitments.
• Embedding the pledge into governance, accountability, decision-making, and existing safeguarding structures.
• Developing measures of success that incorporate data, lived experience, and continuous learning.

The programme aims to:

• Centre and value practitioner voice.
• Strengthen conversations around equity and anti-racist practice.
• Influence strategic decision-making through frontline experience.
• Ensure commitments are translated into meaningful action rather than remaining symbolic.

The pledge is designed to build on existing governance arrangements, placing system learning and continuous improvement at its core.
